The Greater Glens Falls
Central Labor Council

Welcome-x9b.GIFAs our Website grows and improves, we'll use it to get the word out on Union activity in our area, our state, and our country, and we hope it will help to create a better sense of community among our members.   It is, and will remain, a "Living Document".

We have had our

and Happy New Year!

Our next Meeting is on Thursday,
February 11th, 2010, at 7:00 PM

as usual, at the
Plumbers' and Pipefitters' Local Union 773 Hall, in Moreau.
at 7:00 PM, February 11th, 2010.

Come and participate!
2010 is a New Year -
Labor needs to Get our Political Representatives to Pass responsible Social and Labor Legislation!

As an important note,
many of you will have noticed that so far most politicians have been sidestepping any endorsement of House Resolution 676 (House bill: HR676) for the enactment of the Single-Payer Health Insurance that is not only much cheaper than existing insurance OR the "Option", but unlike any private for-profit company, not only allows you to use any Doctor whatever you wish, but allows your own Doctor to say what treatments you need without being afraid that some Company clerk will turn you down to save money, despite your having paid them the premiums for it!
Please continue to write, FAX, and call the offices of  Scott Murphy, Kirsten Gillibrand, and Charles Schumer to remind them that their supporters also support HR676.
 Meeting Location Reminder:

Don't forget to reserve the date for our February 11th, 2010 Meeting on Thursday, Febuary 11th, 2010, at the usual time of 7:00 PM

Our Meetings are currently at the Plumbers' and Pipefitters' Local Union 773 Hall at  30 Bluebird Road, South Glens Falls - in Moreau, but continue to check the Directions page for new maps and more info on  our future meeting places.

Our Meetings concentrate on our own local area plans as well as the wider "Up-State" plans from CDALF, and the State-wide activities of our NYS AFL-CIO   We also support and encourage Labor-friendly government locally, state-wide, and nationally.   We coordinate with and help - and are helped by - other pro-Labor organizations such as the Solidarity Committee, and the Labor-Religion Coalition  Come talk with other Unions' Delegates who have already "been there".

Labor still has a lot of non-union workplaces to Organize -- and a lot of workers who would like to be Unionized, but are afraid of losing their jobs if they try to exercise their rights.  We also have other issues that affect the welfare of all workers, like the need for Universal Health Care, which will also ease the pressure on employers to shift insurance costs to their workers in order to compete with other countries that already have it -- better health care at lower cost for everyone.

All Union Locals can and should have full representation in Labor Councils regardless of other affiliation, so if you have any questions, come and ask.

Do plan to attend our Meetings and forums, and since we welcome extra visitors to our Meetings from Labor even if they are not voting Delegates, please feel free to bring along some of your other Members as well.
